It was a season that had it all, a new record placing (34th), more points than ever (2168) and a little vase from Ainet Bruggen. Last season it was accepted that recruitment was needed, EE is an ageing team, and whilst this wasn’t really solved at least these veterans built a season like no other for the team.
The season started on a huge high as Geo Anamia was peerless in the 2nd division, winning 2, including Ainet Bruggen during the TF period. Basa returned to Portugal and whilst only getting one podium on the stages achieved a career high of 2nd here. For the first time ever we raced Cymru Taith and Gherman Cristache won stage 1 before (as ever) a poor TT. The season then hit it’s stride with Hannity and Chakraborty both using top form, Hannity to pick up a podium at Valpa and Chakraborty getting his first result at Rio Pico. Regular points finishes at the end of the season were the game changer that put EE into the top division for the season’s end.
Season 51 will look to navigate the turbulent waters of both more div 1 races and a team composition that has serious cracks.
Riders:
Lincoln Hannity - 760 points - 7 results - 1 win
The lynchpin of the team, as well as his numerous podiums he got a further 7 points scores. Had 14 chance this season and scored at all but one. Hannity’s season almost secured him the English title at the end of the season until it was so cruely torn from him on day 88.
Geo Anamia - 540 - 3 - 2
Secured the team our greatest single stage result with Ainet Bruggen. A 160k price tag (including TF) marks him as a true bargin. Strong performances without TF at the end of the season show there’s still more left in the tank.
Rudi Basa - 228 - 2
2nd at the Volta, for a 47 average rider his performances here the last 4 seasons have very much defied expectations and the WC is gonna be useful to get him a chance for a 5th successive top 4 finish. Still basically only races 1 race a year with the only other success coming at Holyhead TT (9th)
Gherman Cristache - 180 - 2 - 1
Here one second gone the next. Whilst he was only a flash in the pan his Cymru Taith performance meant the Romanian left the team on a high.
Arpad Faltus - 170 - 1
Again used the div 2 calendar to his advantage with 3 points finishes. Only worry is that we’re not in div 2 any longer and so research is needed for if Arpad has anything to race for.
Iancu Raducioiu - 110
Despite being ‘recharged’ no top form was available (90% sure I messed up the end of the recharge) which meant he missed out on one final Valpa chance and Hannity stood in. 6th in Whistler Vancouver shows he could still captain this year in div 1.
Sadiq Chakraborty - 90 - 1
His battle for Bangladesh’s no. 1 was close despite Sadiq only scoring once. Came agonisingly close in 2 more races but untimely crashes and mechanicals ended that hope.
Marc Marcassin - 90
The man who’s parents loved the name Marc so much they named him twice joined very late on but immediately got the EE fans behind him finishing 5th in Mexico.
Daniel Sammut Castelletti
35 races this season, all building this young star up towards his first serious target, the Valpa YC.
S51 targets:
Valpa YC - DSC
Vuelta? - Rubik
